Future care secured, thanks to your legacy gift

Thank you for considering supporting the future of East Cheshire Hospice with a gift in your will. We are grateful to everyone who considers helping us in this way.

Gifts from wills ('legacies'), cost you nothing in your lifetime and are incredibly important to us. Since the Hospice was founded, legacy gifts have made up an essential part of our income, helping to fund free care for as many as one in three of our patients.

Every single legacy, no matter how big or small, makes a real difference.

If you would like to talk to us, a member of the fundraising team would be delighted to chat with you, please call 01625 433477 or email fundraising@echospice.org.uk.

Why make a will?

Making a will, and keeping it updated, ensures that your assets go where you would want and that your wishes are fulfilled. If you die without a valid will ('intestate'), it can make things very difficult for those you leave behind, and they may end up with costly legal fees.

Gifts to UK registered charities, like East Cheshire Hospice, are free of Inheritance Tax so the full amount is received by the charity, rather than 40% going to the Government. Importantly for your family, leaving charitable gifts in your will can reduce the Inheritance Tax payable on the rest of your estate.

If your estate is worth more than £325,000 a gift to a charity will reduce the tax liable.

Following a new incentive introduced on 6th April 2012, if you leave 10% or more of your estate to charity, Inheritance Tax payable will be at 36% and not 40%.

Should you decide to remember the Hospice in your will, please make sure to include our:

Full name: East Cheshire Hospice
Address: Millbank Drive, Macclesfield SK10 3DR
Registered Charity Number: 515104

If you already have a will and would like to leave the Hospice a gift, a simple, inexpensive document called a codicil can be added to your will.

For more information see our glossary of terms.

If you do need to write, update a will or add a codicil, we recommend you speak to a solicitor for advice.

Local solicitors can found through the Law Society or the internet. For a list of solicitors who have supported the hospice through its annual Will Week or other fundraising initiatives, please click here.
